Our friends at Hearthstone Grove, ADF, hosted their seventh annual Texas Imbolc Retreat in Mountain Home, Texas for the entire weekend of February 6th through 8th. It was AWESOME!!!
Arch Headmaster, Devon Reynolds gave a passionate two-part lecture on "The Serpent Power: Sacred Sexuality in the Druid Tradition." OAT Faculty Members David Thompson told of the amazing feats of "The Sons of Tuirean" from the so called "Three Sorrows of Irish Storytelling." He bumped things up a bit with "The Last Viking," a tale of valour and personal triump, then the heart-wrenching tale of "How Death was Brought Back into the World"--a tale from his ancestral Russia. OAT Historian, Carly McNamara, presented on the practice of "Tending the Flame" with a particular focus on the Sacred Flame of the Goddess/Saint Brigid.
We had the pleasure of participating in several rituals led by different groups over the course of the weekend, thus strengthening our bonds as community. The general consensus of the whole retreat is that we ALL need to learn to work together and align our goals and passions so that we can form a strong, dedicated community of caretakers and local leaders.
Trained OBOD member, John Beckett, started off the weekend with a workshop focused on building a positive future for practitioners of Druidry and other indigenous spiritualities. Reverends Sean Harbaugh and Jon Drum expounded upon this topic in their discussion group on leadership and structure in the Druid community. It was such a treat to hear these wonderful speakers.
Many new friends were made and certainly much fun was had. It can safely be said that all who attended this year are looking forward with bright anticipation to the Texas Imbolc Retreat of 2016!!!
